Daniel Karell
Daniel Karell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Yale University. He has also been a Weather Scholar at Harvard University (2022-23) and a Fung Global Fellow at Princeton University (2017-18). Daniel’s research focuses on the relationship between social media and contemporary sociopolitical dysfunction. He is especially interested in the offline consequences of an increasingly insulated hard-right online ecosystem, including so-called alt-tech platforms, like Parler and Gab. He is additionally part of an international team based at Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) that is examining the effect of online discourse on intercommunal violence in India. More generally, he works at the intersection of politics, culture, violence, and digital communication technologies, including computational approaches to studying culture.
