Russia’s disinformation doctrine, rewritten by Artificial Intelligence | Medium

The analyst who first published an English-language translation of the so-called “Gerasimov Doctrine” — a speech about the new importance of hybrid warfare by the Russian Chief of General Staff in early 2013 — regrets accidentally promoting Gerasimov’s words. He admitted in a recent article that the disinformation doctrine has “acquired a destructive life of its own, lumbering clumsily into the world to spread fear and loathing in its wake.”

This year, General Gerasimov publicly expanded on his views, perhaps propelled by his own unexpected international clout on the issues of disinformation, propaganda and psychological operations. Still, Western analysts say the General’s comments lack the authority of an actual doctrinal doctrine, and seem to call for something more expansive.
