How the Political Communications Profession Helped Divide America | Annenberg School for Communication

April 15, 2021 6:00 pm 7:30 pm

Using examples of political advertising, including some of his own work in nearly 30 years of creating such content as a campaign consultant, Craig Snyder will explore the cumulative effects on the American political system, and on American society more broadly, of four standard techniques in modern American political communications:

  1. The use of half-truths in advocacy
  2. Relentless negativity
  3. The politics of personal destruction
  4. Whataboutism

With the opportunity for questions and interaction beyond the formal presentation, Snyder wants to engage the audience in a dialogue about improving the way Americans communicate about politics.
