First Amendment Disrupted? The State of Freedom of Expression in the US | Gallup

May 5, 2020 12:00 pm 1:00 pm

“Join Gallup and the John S. and James. L Knight Foundation for a discussion on the future of the freedom of expression in the U.S. and the state of free speech during the turbulent present. Rapid changes in our society are putting new pressures on First Amendment freedoms. At the same time, free expression and civil discourse are more important than ever.

Knight Foundation’s Sam Gill, senior vice president and chief program officer, will share relevant findings and observations from recent research on free speech on college campuses conducted with Gallup — a glimpse into how an emerging generation thinks about this bedrock set of rights.

The event will also include insights by PEN America and a panel moderated by Sanford Ungar of the Georgetown Free Speech Project, featuring Jameel Jaffer of the Knight First Amendment Institute, Emily Chamlee-Wright of the Institute for Humane Studies and Ronald Crutcher of the University of Richmond. Audience members will be given the opportunity to ask questions of speakers and panelists.

Gallup and Knight Foundation thank our sponsors PEN America, the Free Speech Project and the American Council on Education.”
