Fighting Election Disinformation with First-Time Voters | PEN America

September 30, 2020 6:30 pm 8:00 pm

Join PEN America on Wednesday, September 30 at 6:30pm ET for a live and interactive media literacy workshop that will focus on examples of mis/disinformation targeting first-time voters and helpful strategies that new voters can employ to guard against misleading election information and cast their ballots safely and confidently.

Voting for the first time can be nerve-racking, and it’s hard enough navigating through the slew of information about how, when, and where to vote in a normal election year. Because 2020’s is everything but a “normal” election season, PEN America is here to work with first-time voters on spotting and stopping mis/disinformation that we are seeing or expect to encounter in the following weeks leading up to Election Day. We’ll discuss how to debunk mail-in ballot issues, review registration deadlines, and map out which states are likely to have longer delays. We will learn to apply PEN America’s Media Literacy Toolkit to the influx of false content about the election and voting process so participants are prepared to discern fact from falsehood and vote securely for the first time.
