As social media platforms continue to progress and new platforms continue to emerge, it is not uncommon for users to switch between different platforms. This migration of users from one platform to another is interesting to understand various user behaviors including the reasons in which users migrate, the similarities and differences in post content post-migration, and the ways in which different users interact with each other through migration. One of the most recent migration events is the Twitter migration following Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in October 2022. This project explores the aftermath of migration by examining users on four platforms: Twitter, Mastodon, Bluesky, and Threads. We are interested in how user behaviors change across platforms as well as the reasons for the change in relation to migration.
