This chapter explains the importance of representation for practitioners of digital ethnography and the ethical and methodological challenges they may face. It accounts for both the interpretation of representations in digital spaces and the representation of actors and actions in academic research. It underlines the importance of cultural codes in order to achieve an in-depth reading of representations of the self and of others. It also considers the ethical issues that may arise in digital ethnographies. Finally, it points out the similarities and differences between digital ethnographies and other types of ethnography.
