Tropical Bot Wars: behind the 2010 and 2014 presidential elections in Brazil

The exercise of democracy, by the vote, in countries with multifaceted citizen groups and a complex political scenario can be an inspiration for those who study the effects of the Internet upon democracy processes. In this paper, we aim to expose some aspects of the Brazilian presidential elections focusing on the period of 2010 and 2014, as the beginning of the use of political bots interacting with humans in web interfaces. Furthermore, as new presidential and municipal election approaches in 2016, the issue of having means to include or not bots in the political processes arises. This paper will ensnare the case studies, focusing on the bots interventions and interlinking them into projections for the bots scenario, after analysing the outcomes and impacts of its use in previous elections.
