TikTok and YouTube have policies against climate misinformation – but a joint investigation from Science Feedback and Fundación Maldita.es finds TikTok and YouTube rarely enforce their rules, even after misleading content has been reported.
Our findings come from a test of the two platforms’ reporting mechanisms. We reported 174 TikTok and 163 YouTube videos in French and Spanish. Each video we reported had high visibility, and our human fact-checkers determined that each contained misleading content.
TikTok restricted only a small minority of our reported videos. YouTube never answered at all.
