This practitioner article describes a classroom-tested, five-day unit that addresses the NGSS standard MS-ESS1-1, “Develop and use a model of the Earth-sun-moon system to describe the cyclic patterns of lunar phases, eclipses of the sun and moon, and seasons.’’ While addressing this science concept, the lessons also support students’ science media literacy. The lessons and activities leverage students’ prior knowledge to help them refine their thinking about the seasons and science in the media.
