The release of the new National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine report, Securing the Vote: Protecting American Democracy, will take place at a public briefing at 11 a.m. Eastern on Thursday, September 6, 2018 in Room 125 of the National Academy of Sciences Building, 2101 Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20418, Phone: 202-334-2000. The report looks at current technology and standards for voting, examines challenges arising out of the 2016 federal election, and offers recommendations that provide a vision of voting that is more secure, reliable, and verifiable. A study committee developed the report under the leadership of co-chairs Lee C. Bollinger (President, Columbia University) and Michael M. McRobbie (President, Indiana University).
This project was a joint activity of the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Committee on Science, Technology, and Law and Computer Science and Telecommunications Board. It was funded with grants from the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and with funds from National Academy of Sciences’ W. K. Kellogg Foundation Fund and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Presidents’ Circle Fund.
