Job Opportunity: Research Scientist, Center for an Informed Public | University of Washington

The University of Washington’s Information School is seeking a Research Scientist to provide leadership and project management for a rapid-response research program at the Center for an Informed Public (CIP). Initially developed for the 2020 U.S. election, this model for the real-time monitoring of online misinformation incorporates the careful practice and methodologies of research while shortening the cycle to real-world impact that can more quickly inform policy, as well as equip media and the general public with necessary tools and resources to fight disinformation and support the democratic process.

Our collective struggles to address disinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic and 2020 U.S. election underscore the need for 1) rapid-response research to identify disinformation as it takes shape and begins to flow across social media platforms and the broader media ecosystem and 2) frameworks for intervention that can quickly counter false narratives and provide trustworthy information. Rapid-response research requires innovative data collection, analysis, and communication strategies.
